A new dating show in the UK has got me wondering whether this is a new low or a new high for reality TV… The show is called “Dating in the dark” and no, I’m not making this up! The idea is that a guy and a girl meet for the first time in complete darkness – experiencing a literal blind date.
Only when the date is finished and they’ve worked out how well they get on, does the girl actually get to see what the guy looks like. A spotlight is shined on the guy, so she can see him, but he can’t see her. And her reaction to seeing what he looks like is filmed through a night-vision camera. But to give the show a cruel twist, they pair up attractive looking females with slightly below-par guys, so the girl is typically disgusted with the guys looks. Ouch.
Cue soul-crushing rejection on behalf of the guys, as girls re-discover, and if it were ever forgotten, that looks are kinda important. Check out the TV review here in the UK newspaper The Guardian.
